Chorley Building Society has launched a new initiative offering financial donations to Lancashire charity, community and sports organisations.

Called Chorley High Five, the initiative will donate a minimum of 5% of the building society’s annual operating profits to local good causes.

The building society is raising public awareness of the High Five initiative and encouraging more Lancashire charitable and community groups to apply for grants.

Kim Roby, Customer Services Director at Chorley Building Society, said: “Over the years, we have been proud to help many good causes with financial donations and other support. We’ve launched the new ‘Chorley High Five’ name to increase public awareness of our donations and other help for good causes. We really want to make a tangible change in our community and look forward to hearing from charities and groups in Lancashire.

“Chorley High Five donations are available to charities, community organisations, not-for-profit organisations and grassroots clubs which support our Society’s aims. These focus on enhancing community wellbeing, tackling poverty and homelessness, or supporting grassroots sport activities. Full details are on our society’s website or available in print information from branches.”

She added: “One of the latest local charities to receive a donation is Chorley Help the Homeless, which has been given £1,000 from the High Five programme. We are delighted to support such a good cause.”

Chorley Help the Homeless supports people in need across the Chorley and South Ribble areas, including those impacted by the covid-19 pandemic. It offers a wide range of support with housing needs but also other issues, such as money, food and family worries linked to furlough, low income, benefit applications or unemployment.

Speaking about the donation, charity manager Gill Ferris said: “We’re really grateful to Chorley Building Society for this £1,000 and will put it to good use on frontline services. The building society plays a very important role in the community, which we really appreciate.

“The donation comes at a very busy period for us. We’ve seen a huge increase in demand for services over the pandemic. More people are coming for help and we moved into our bigger premises in recent months to offer more and better services.

Kim Roby added: “Our Charity Committee meets every quarter to review applications and award donations. If your charity or group shares our commitments to the local community and you would like to apply for a donation, please get in touch by complete the form on the website or in our branches.

“Being locally-based and accountable means that our Members and the wider community can see the positive differences being made by the Society’s support to the places where they live and work. The Society gives back to the community through our charity work, supporting community groups and sports clubs, and sponsoring events.

Chorley Building Society has recently been awarded ‘Highly Commended’ for Community Services by the Mortgage Finance Gazette in recognition for its work with charities and local groups.
