Vote for our Charity of the Year 2023
Each year the whole Chorley Building Society Team focus on raising funds and supporting a local charity throughout the year. The charity is selected by our Members and colleagues and becomes our chosen charity for the coming year!
Over the last couple of months we have received applications from many North West charities and our colleagues have voted for their top three.
Read our summaries below of these fantastic charities.
Chorley Fundraising Group for Guide Dogs
Chorley Fundraising Group for Guide Dogs raise money to help support children from birth & their families. Many of you will have seen Nell on TV preparing for her first day at school .
However what comes to mind when you mention Guide Dogs to most people are the dogs themselves, of which there are many in & around the Chorley area.
Whether an adult prefers a Guide Dog or a My Sighted Guide, Guide Dogs are there to help them to be able to live the life they choose. Creating exceptional partnerships between people, dogs & community.
Chorley Help the Homeless
Chorley Help the Homeless are a small volunteer led charity. Their mission is to help people in the community of Chorley who are homeless or threatened with homelessness and to seek to prevent homelessness. And to act as an advocate on their behalf to ensure they get the support they need; to be a catalyst for change to improve their lives for the better.
We have a homeless drop-in centre open 4 days a week 10am to 2pm. We provide a warm, safe, and welcoming environment, breakfast, a hot lunch, food bank, clothing, homewares, support, and advice. We are open to everyone in need without a referral and rely solely on donations and grant funding.
During this time of financial crisis, our services are more important than ever to those in need in our community. As we see more visitors attending our drop-in centre and accessing the food bank at a time when we are seeing a decrease in donations as more and more households are struggling.
MS Society Chorley & Leyland
The Chorley & Leyland Group of the MS Society support people affected by Multiple Sclerosis (MS) in the Chorley community.
Local people with MS have told us that social isolation becomes more of a concern as their disease progresses. So taking up these concerns, we are specifically setting out to improve how we provide a range of health related activities to include an environment where people with MS, their families and carers can socialise in a friendly and supportive way.
We offer two weekly online exercise classes, together with fortnightly face to face seated exercise classes. The face to face classes incorporate a time set aside for a cup of tea and a chat. We provide weekly hydrotherapy sessions in a community pool where people affected by MS can exercise with less pain than they feel on dry land.
We also have regular get-togethers where people with MS can come with friends and relatives to socialise in a supportive and understanding environment. All these initiatives are opportunities that provide social occasions to counteract isolation.
In addition, we provide home based therapies for people with MS whose disability precludes them from getting out. Our therapists are selected on their ability to bring the life of the community into the home as well as for their professional expertise.
